Parents' Right to Know

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), parents may request the following information:

  • Whether their child's teacher has met state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
  • Whether their child's teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived.
  • Whether their child's teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.
  • Whether their child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

School districts are required to inform parents regarding the qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers as well as the school improvement status of the school.  Parents have the right to know the following:

  • The professional qualifications of their child’s teacher(s) including degrees and certifications held
  • The respective area of instruction in which the teacher is certified
  • The school improvement status of the school
  • The level of achievement of their child in each area of the state assessment
  • If their child has been assigned, or has been taught for at least four consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet the professionally qualified definition

Parents have a right to be involved in the planning and implementation of the Parent & Family Engagement Program in their school. For additional information regarding Title I and /or Parent & Family Engagement, visit the Georgia Department of Education’s website or contact Bulloch County School’s Federal Programs Department at 912-212-8553.
